不粘干燥――Dry to tack free:指涂膜表面形成干膜，達到不會粘住灰塵的程度。
不相容性――Incompatibility:與相容性――Compatibility相反不可燃――Nonflammable:在火焰中不能自行燃燒的化合物。
不揮發組分――Non-volatile:油漆溶劑揮發后的部分。包括各種顏料、催干劑鹽類、樹脂、油脂、胺類等等。
玻璃化溫度――Glass transition temperature (Tg):聚合物性質發生急劇變化，結構呈現玻璃狀脆性狀態的溫度。一般認為，在Tg溫度以下，聚合物分子的部分運動受到限制，聚合物變得堅硬、脆弱。在Tg溫度以上，則類似橡膠狀態。
丙烯酸樹脂――Acrylic resin:丙烯酸類單體(甲基、乙基、丁基，丙烯酸等等)類聚合物。
丙烯酸乳液――Acrylic latex:丙烯酸樹脂水性分散液。
表面張力――Surface tension:液體表面擴張單位面積需要的能量(N.m-1 或者 J.m-2)。由于分子間力的作用，液體一般將盡量縮小表面積。
脆性――Brittleness:當油漆發生彎曲、撓曲時發生開裂或斷裂的容易程度。催化劑――Catalyst加速化學反應速度的助劑。但是并不在化學反應中消耗。這與固化劑不同。
催 干劑――Drier促進氧化合涂膜干燥的化學品。主要用于油性油漆、油墨和清漆。催干劑主要是金屬化合物，有液體也有固體。不同的催干劑可分為：主催干劑 (活性催干劑――active driers)、次催干劑――secondary driers(輔助催干劑――auxiliary driers)，和復合催干劑――combination driers次催干劑――Secondary drier與主催干劑合并使用，加速涂膜干燥的助劑。同義參見――輔助催干劑――Auxiliary driers。
磁漆――Enamel形成特殊高光、光滑表面的油漆。
醇酸樹脂――Alkyd resin由多元醇、鄰苯二甲酸酐、脂肪酸或者油脂(甘油三脂肪酸酯)，縮合聚合而成的復雜聚酯樹脂。參見(熱固性)，可廣泛用于一般油漆施工。
