批改作文是對學生作文的批示、評價和修改，是提高學生作文能力和認識水平的有效方法，是作文教學的重要組成部分。作文批改的內容主要有四個方面：一是思想內容方面，包括文章的立意，題材的選擇，中心的確定，對生活的認識，對事物的理解等。二是篇章結構方面，包括層次的安排，段落的劃分，詳略的比重，文章的布局、過渡和照應等。三是語言文字方面，包括用詞的準確，句子的通順，修辭的運用，有無錯別字、生造詞以及狹隘土話等。四是標點符號的正確，字跡的工整，書面的規范等。以上四個方面，后兩項往往不被重視，教師應該相應地采取切實有效的措施。
作文的批改方式一般有以下三種：
1、教師批改。教師批改一篇作文的步驟一般是：先通讀全文，了解文章概況，并順便勾劃出錯別字、病句、生造詞、狹隘土話，訂正標點符號;然后從全文出發，對內容、結構、選材、立意等方面逐段進行批改;批改完畢后，再通篇檢查一遍，比較該生過去的作文情況，適當加以總批。教師的批改，應該從遣詞造句到書寫、文風、思想深度等方面都要成為學生的榜樣，對學生起到示范作用。教師的批改，一般以作文課后的書面批改為主。在批改時，可以普遍批改，可以重點批改，輪換批改，也可以當面批改。批改的方式是多種多樣的。教師可根據自教學的實際需要合理選用。但應盡量多采用普遍批改的方式，這是教師全面掌握學生作文實際的最有效的方法，也便于因材施教。
2、師生共同批改。
要認真提高學生的作文能力，就應該放手讓學生自己寫，自己改，放開他們的手腳，充分發揮他們的積極性和主動性;要提高學生批改作文的能力，教師就要注重培養，讓學生在實踐中得到鍛煉。
師生共同批改也有不同的形式。較常用的有兩種：一種是教師批、學生改。即先由教師認真翻閱學生作文，在需要修改的地方注上各種符號，或進行文字批示，提出修改意見，然后把作文發給學生自己修改。學生修改完后再收上來檢查其修改情況，以便總結講評和評定成績。
另一種形式是教師作批改示范，讓學生模仿學習。首先是教師示范?？梢栽谌嘧魑闹羞x出一兩篇有代表性的習作印發給學生，然后再由教師示范批改。即由教師選出有代表性的習作，放手讓學生自己去批改，再由教師歸納學生的意見進行總結;或者在教師的參與下進行適當的討論，以便澄清是非，使學生得到提高。
3.學生自改或互改。
這是在師生共同批改的基礎上對學生更放手的一種批改方式。它可以激發學生作文的興趣，提高學生修改作文的能力。學生自改或互改必須在教師的具體指導下進行。教師要根據學生作文的實際提出具體的評改要求和重點，及時地、具體地對學生進行啟發和指導。在一般情況下，學生改過后，教師還應當進行復批復改，以便訂正學生漏改、誤改和批語欠妥、評分不當之處。
作文批改中應注意以下幾個問題：
1、批改學生的作文重視語言文字和標點書寫兩個方面。
2、在給每篇作文下總批時，應該有所側重，要抓住主要矛盾，不應面面俱到，造成學生無所適從。通過一次作文批改，能解決一個兩個比較重要的問題。
