我 的 創 作 過 程

1993年秋,我所在師院外語系開迎新生晚會,同學們邀請外教唱一首歌,外教用英語說: “ 我不會唱漢語歌,我唱一首英語歌吧。”我故意問身邊的一位新生:“他剛才說了句什么?”新生一臉茫然地說:“沒聽懂。”我又問我8歲的女兒:“你聽懂了沒有?”她給出了正確的翻譯。當時能考進師院外語系,說明這位學生的英語還不錯,但就是沒聽懂一個簡單的英語句子。這件事反映了我國英語教學的一個實際情況,即學生學的是“聾子英語”、“啞巴英語”。改革開放以來,我從一個學英語的學生變成一個教英語的老師,深知這一問題的嚴重性,所以一直有個愿望,想從兒童入手,深入初高中的教學,研發一套從入門到高中再銜接到大學的系列英語教材和教法,探索出一條適合中國人學好英語的良好途徑。

我小時侯學過一段時間繪畫,還在報紙上發表過小作品,有點繪畫基礎。在教學當中,我發現單純的知識講解很枯燥,學生們也感到乏味,我就試著用簡筆畫配合教學,一下就提高了學生的學習興趣。久而久之,簡筆畫就成為我教案中一個重要部分。我從1986年就在《新概念英語》的教學中使用簡筆畫,給學生留下了深刻的印象。有一年一個培訓班請我講《新概念英語2》。我邊講邊把我教案里的簡筆畫畫到黑板上,并讓學生跟著我看圖復述課文,學生在下課之前,基本上能把課文復述下來。時隔三年后,一位學生家長跟我講,她家孩子對學校的英語課提不起興趣,很苦惱。說這三年來,孩子經歷了不少英語老師,唯獨對我講的課感興趣,還想再上我教的課。

之后多年,我一邊教學一邊把新概念2冊中的課文畫了一遍,我的備課本里經常畫滿了簡筆畫,同事跟我開玩笑說“把你調到美術系吧”。初稿畫出之后,我又在教學當中不斷地加以修改完善,并做成了教學掛圖。很多家長和學生都說看著這些畫面很容易就能把課文背下來,一旦不看,就非常吃力。所以多次催促我盡快把教學掛圖整理印刷成書。對此,我曾經猶豫過好久。我是有點繪畫基礎,但畢竟不是專業畫家。如果把我的畫整理成書,能拿得出去嗎?為此我請過一些專業的畫家幫我繪制,結果他們畫出來的東西,雖然藝術造型很好,但不能恰到好處地表現出教學所需的東西。懂英語教學的不會畫畫,會畫畫的又不懂英語教學。在這種兩難的情況下,只好全部由我自己親手整理繪制,并在教學實驗中,進行了無數次的完善,使之更具有使用價值,學生更喜歡。

簡筆畫名曰簡筆畫,但事實上要用簡單的筆畫表現復雜的意象,并非是一件簡單的事情。通常用于教學的簡筆畫大多是配合小學階段的教學,一課中最多

3、4幅就解決問題了。要把一篇篇高中程度的課文逐句畫出,絕非易事。尤其是《新概念英語2》中的96篇課文,涉及到政治、社會、人物、考古、藝術、科技和自然等等領域,全部畫完,是一項浩大的工程。我在創作這些簡筆畫中,可謂嘔心瀝血,花費了我大量時間和精力。我像一個電影導演一樣,對課文中的文字描述斟詞酌句,從整體到細節都要進行充分的把握,還要深入挖掘人物的內心世界,把握人與人、人與場景的關系,然后把人物的性格特點、表情動作等,通過比較恰當的外形設計,用最簡單的筆畫最大程度上全部表現出來。涉及真實事物的描述,還查找了大量實景資料或外出寫生,然后進行簡化提煉。所有的畫面布局不僅考慮到與文字的關系,怎樣排列更方便學習,還要考慮畫面風格的統一協調等一系列問題。做到以上這些,我雖然盡了全力,但遺憾之處還很多,期待大家指正,并在以后的教學中進一步完善。
